the prep

laying out the paper...in a straight line :)

ready to empty

ice cream scoop & some elbow grease

my favorite part

and now his :)

sketching out the face design...

:)

adding some detail

now we're talking!

its a collaboration of sorts

so proud of our work

seeing it lit at night for the first time

happy halloween! now let's see if digs his costume as much as he digs his pumpkin :)

a shu, a logan, some wheels.

the field museum

the stroessler men.

and he's off... rumor is there are dino bones inside.

'dino bones, hansy? please? i love them. just ask Our Betsy!'

shua meets Sue.

if you are lucky enough to know hansy, ask him the story behind these deer. fantastic.

a pteranadon and a t rex mural. home away from home.

if you ask shu what he saw in chicago, he'll most likely answer "trains." if you ask him what else he might have seen, he'll most likely say "t rex and 2 big huge elephants."

mac & cheese, oj, and chicago. sigh.

the ginormous, moving, responds-to-what-moves-around-her Sue. we weren't too sure about her at first.

so we moved to a safer locale.

slowly, we moved forward and eventually made it up front. sadly, no pictures of the bravery. my hand was being held hostage :)

stroesslers: out.

a boy and his hansy.

now, i'm sure you can imagine how tired a dude can get
when faced with a dino spectacular such as this.

because, truly,
a dude can get tired.

real, real tired.

oh, chicago, you wear me out

as a kid,
on one or two of my less than stellar days,
my nana used to say to me:
"Dear, Dear, Dear,
you Wear Me OUT!"

it was always said in her gentle Nana way,
but as a parent now...well...
let's just say i appreciate her restraint.

chicago can be similar.
though, instead of being less than stellar,
it is Very, Very Stellar.
particularly now that we have 2 family units to visit.
so many pictures, people. so many.
several posts are in your future.

this time round, we went to the north household first.
cue: stevie, LaLa and the ever-present Logie.
as my somewhat L-less son says,
"yots and yots of fun!"

our little logan. i really, really love this kid.

fishing with aunt katie

tossing rocks with the cuz

gorgeous LaLa

steven (who may or may not have just scared those geese into the water)

shu and the fish i caught, reeled 2/3 of the way in, freaked, and sorta tossed the pole to katie, who then reeled the poor thing in, unhooked him and tossed him back into the drink. thanks, sister. i really wasn't prepared to catch one :)

a little baseball

getting the hang of the tee. or T? anyone?

practicing the future baseball card stance
these kids were capturing outlandishly sized amphibians.

dear heavens. joshua's face says it all.

he braves the touch! i, friends, did not. shocker.

the true love, rocks hurling through the air. (water optional.)

SO

RIDICULOUSLY

CUTE.
