breaking in the garden

just like Martha Martha says,
you have gots to get yo' peas in.

okay, so maybe she doesn't say exactly that.
but you never know.
she might.
on an off day.

and, back by popular demand,
a little ShuaCam of the first planting:

thursday with The Jaj

starting with a bubble juice run.

dzaidzi the Spinosaurus. roar.

eating a tomato...

from dzaidzi's garden...

that was intended for nana... oops.

playing the uke with 'mags' (and one sock)

seeds, seeds, seeds

remember those st patty day's peas?

turns out martha knows her peas. did we really doubt?

today, m & n helped drop more seeds in our freshly tilled ground.
  • another round of peas
  • 2 rows of spinach
  • 2 rows of mixed greens

here, the boys.

a good sign

the first worms of the season were uncovered today.

they're our helpful little buddies in the garden, so it was good to see them.

i'm hoping to get some peas in the ground tomorrow.

why so early, you ask? because Martha said so.

seeds for G

it was over 60 degrees today.
joy and springy spring!

happy birthday, gigi!

shua and i spent time outside
(without coats, thank you)
throwing icy, remainder-snow balls at trees,
driving matchbox cars off the "beeeeg one sliduh,"
and, best of all,
planting seeds in starter cups.

on tap today, in honor of the birthday lady:
two types of heirloom tomatoes.
and some mixed greens.

(can you find the shu below?)
shua learned how to operate the watering bottle.
the aiming took practice to perfect, clearly.

happy birthday, g!
birthday tomatoes coming in a few months :)

the truth

i'll be honest.

i love my garden.
but i love so many other things, too.

sometimes,
dividing my time, attention
and, well, motivation
can lead to squash such as these...
yes, that's a credit card.

however,
fear not, hansy & gigi.
tomatoes are ripening for you as i type.

late last night, post-party,
i made some toast on the charcoal grill that was still hot,
spread some hummus,
(thanks, grandma!)
and salted slices of this beauty.

i would have taken pictures of the sandwich,
but my mouth was closer
than my camera.
